Black History month in Theology

-----Black History month in Theology------
This year, I want to introduce contemporary theologians. I commend to you the book Glory Road. It is an anthology of writings from outstanding Reformed Evangelical theologians who happen to be black.

-Week 1- writing comes from Thabiti Anyabwile. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Week 2 - Our journey brings us to Emmanuel Kolini, Archbishop of Rwanda, in the Anglican church. He was instrumental in the explosion of ministry in the North American church. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Week 3 - I want to introduce you to Voddie Baucham, Senior Pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church, Spring, Texas. Here is his article.
-Week 4 - Our final selection of writing comes from Louis C. Love, Jr. He contributed an article entitled "The Doors of the Church Are Opened!" for the book, Glory Road. The following story includes a link to hear him speak about his journey. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Extra installment - This is an extra installment of our February focus. I have included this article because what Dr. Fred Luter is about to accomplish is enormously significant. He is set to become the first black president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Amen and amen!!!!!!!!

Praise / Prayer Requests

It is my prayer that each of you have had a great start to this week.  Below are our prayer requests:
 
1.  Goff's - their kids totalled their car this past weekend.  They were OK, but this will
         cause transportation issues as they start school.  Prayers for a good outcome as
         they determine who was at fault and the ability to replace the car.
2.  Glen Goff - traveling to Japan Friday.  Pray for safety.
3.  Marianna - friend of the Howard's that we have been praying for salvation.  Continued
            prayer for the Holy Spirit to move.
4.  Ken - Angela Casey's brother, he is lost and needs our prayers for salvation and
            restoration.
5.  Nancy - Nick Casey's Mom, is bedridden, but able to be assisted out of the bed.  Prayer
             for healing and recovery.
6.  Nicole - young lady whose boyfriend is from Morocco and she is being influenced by
             his Muslim beliefs.  Prayer for a shield of protection around her heart and mind.
7.  Pam Lister's Parents - Dad is on hospice and Mom has Alzheimer's.  Prayers for the
              family as they make difficult decisions and come to grips with the situation.
8.  Adam Brown - Mike & Helen's son, has a home to sell in Hinesville, GA.  Prayers that a
            willing buyer will step forward.
9.  Heather - daughter of Mike & Helen Brown, husband Joe is due to deploy to
            Afghanistan.  Joe is trying to separate from the military.  Prayers that his
            deployment will be postponed and he will be able to transition out.
10.  Dillon - cousin of Sean Smith, in need of prayer for wisdom.
11.  Chase - another cousin of Sean Smith, travel mercies.
12.  Bill - Kirsten Collison's step-dad, hostile to the gospel.  Pray for a softening of his
             heart.  Also, pray for Kirsten and the family in the lose of her Mom.
13.  Adam Blum - prayers for wisdom in decision making and that he will be open and
              listening to God.
14.  Marriages are struggling, prayers for healing and restoration in all marriages at
           Richland Creek.
15.  Middle School Great Wolf Trip - this Friday through Saturday, prayers for safety and
             wisdom for the kids to know their own limitations and to listen and obey their
             chaperones.
16.  Jamie - Jodi Duffield's sister, had surgery on her hand, now moving into physical
               therapy.  Her husband had to quit his part-time job, so prayers for Jamie in
               her recovery and for God's provision with their reduced income.
17.  Scott - prayers for his Mom as she must have emergency open heart surgery due to
            her defibrillator going bad. 
18.  Gus - his Dad has had hospice called in.  Prayers for Gus as he travels to Florida to
               be with his dad and for the family in this difficult time.
 
Praises:
 
1.  Helen Brown - trip on the Appalachian Trail went well despite not being 100%
                prepared.
2.  Pam Lister - praise for Chandra, providing support to Pam's family.  Prayers for wisdom
                  for Chandra.
 
Reminders:
 
1.  8/24 - Big Ed's for the Guys, meet at RCCC at 8 or at Big Ed's at 8:30.  Let Beegee
        know if you are coming and if you will meet at RCCC or down at Big Ed's.
2.  9/8 - final registration for the Women's retreat.
3.  9/15 - final payments for the marriage retreat are due.
4.  9/21 - our next 3rd Saturday.
5.  9/20-22 - marriage retreat
 
As a note, I will bring this up in class this Sunday, but if you will not be attending the marriage retreat, I am looking for someone to take up the prayer requests on 9/22.  Gayle and I will be attending the retreat.  Your help would be greatly appreciated!
