Black History month in Theology

-----Black History month in Theology------
This year, I want to introduce contemporary theologians. I commend to you the book Glory Road. It is an anthology of writings from outstanding Reformed Evangelical theologians who happen to be black.

-Week 1- writing comes from Thabiti Anyabwile. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Week 2 - Our journey brings us to Emmanuel Kolini, Archbishop of Rwanda, in the Anglican church. He was instrumental in the explosion of ministry in the North American church. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Week 3 - I want to introduce you to Voddie Baucham, Senior Pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church, Spring, Texas. Here is his article.
-Week 4 - Our final selection of writing comes from Louis C. Love, Jr. He contributed an article entitled "The Doors of the Church Are Opened!" for the book, Glory Road. The following story includes a link to hear him speak about his journey. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Extra installment - This is an extra installment of our February focus. I have included this article because what Dr. Fred Luter is about to accomplish is enormously significant. He is set to become the first black president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Amen and amen!!!!!!!!

Praise / Prayer Requests

Below are our prayer requests for this week:

1.  Safe Travels for all who will be traveling.
2.  Conner Goff - Asperger's support group, first time attending was Sunday, pray he was able to make a connection.
3.  Chris Howard - Praise that she will be a Grandma!  Please pray for Jessica throughout the pregnancy, she has "Factor 5" which causes blood
          thickening.
4.  Baptisms - pray for those who were baptized on Sunday that they will grow in the wisdom and knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
5.  Patti Terrill - had a severe migraine, medicine was not helping, so they have changed it.  Pray that this new medication will work.
6.  Kerri - friend of the Duffields, gave birth by hemorrhaged twice afterwards with surgery.  She almost did not make it, pray for her healing
          and recovery.
7.  Dan Duffield - he is overloaded with work and is working crazy hours, which is putting stress on the family.  Pray for strength for Dan and the
family and for God to open doors for change, if that is His will.
8.  Dorris H -  our former neighbor, she is now stabilized on her medication, but her daughter is concerned that once she is released from the
hospital that she will not take the medication as she should.  Continued prayer for Dorris and her daughter/family.
9.  Katie Powers - has a concussion and is very nauseated.  Pray for healing of the concussion and abatement of the nausea.
10.  Arianna - the young lady for whom the shower was given at Pregnancy Support Services, she was due on Monday.  Pray she and the baby will be fine.
11. Jerry Tuttle - It is with sadness that I must update everyone that Mr. Tuttle passed away early Monday morning.  Please be in prayer for his family.
12. Gayle and I would also like to add a young lady who works at our gym, whose name is Heather.  She is in her mid-20's and is from a family with 7 adopted children.  She moved in and out of several foster homes before her parents adopted her.  She has a passion for those in the foster system and is currently a foster parent to 3 young girls (age range 6-10).  The girls are half-siblings and Heather is considering adopting them (home situations have not improved and the girls do not want to move back home).  Heather is single, works at least 2 jobs (she manages a Christian Band on the weekends, and yes, she is a believer) and wants to do what is right for these 3 girls.  Please join us in praying for Heather and her girls.  Also, the girls have an immediate need for some new sneakers, as their old ones are worn out.  Heather has it on her list, but obviously, has limited resources.  Gayle and I would like to take up donations, if anyone would like to join us, in providing a new pair of sneakers for each of these girls.  Please bring your monetary donations this Sunday.  As other needs arise, we will let everyone know.

Praises:

1.  Chris Howard's arthritis in now in check thanks to medication and she is feeling much better.
2.  Heather - Scott Blum's niece, is now off the heart pump and back at home, doing very well.  Only the 25th person to go on a pump and be able to come back off the pump without having to have a transplant.

Reminders:

1.  3rd Saturday's are set to begin soon, would like to schedule a meeting to discuss how we will proceed this year.
2.  3/23 - Big Ed's for the guys...with a side of Krispy Kreme.
3.  2/26 - Ladies Night - TBD
