Black History month in Theology

-----Black History month in Theology------
This year, I want to introduce contemporary theologians. I commend to you the book Glory Road. It is an anthology of writings from outstanding Reformed Evangelical theologians who happen to be black.

-Week 1- writing comes from Thabiti Anyabwile. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Week 2 - Our journey brings us to Emmanuel Kolini, Archbishop of Rwanda, in the Anglican church. He was instrumental in the explosion of ministry in the North American church. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Week 3 - I want to introduce you to Voddie Baucham, Senior Pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church, Spring, Texas. Here is his article.
-Week 4 - Our final selection of writing comes from Louis C. Love, Jr. He contributed an article entitled "The Doors of the Church Are Opened!" for the book, Glory Road. The following story includes a link to hear him speak about his journey. Enjoy the link to his outstanding article.
-Extra installment - This is an extra installment of our February focus. I have included this article because what Dr. Fred Luter is about to accomplish is enormously significant. He is set to become the first black president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Amen and amen!!!!!!!!

Praise / Prayer Requests

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great week thus far.  Below are our prayer requests for this week:

1.  Robin Bowes - threw out her back on New Year's Day, pray for her recovery.
2.  Vicki Frye - pray for safe travels.
3.  Millhouse Family - Grandmother passed away.  Pray for comfort during this time of loss.
4.  Barry - relative of the Frye's neighbor who was visiting over Christmas and was playing with the kids at the park, lost control of a scooter, fell and
fractured his skull.  Is in a medically induced coma, breathing tube has been removed and he is breathing on his own.  They are bring him out of
the coma slowly.  His kids are frightened given the severity of his injuries and they are away from home.  Pray for healing and recovery for Barry
and peace for the kids during this difficult time.
5.  Glen Goff -  pray for safe travels.
6.  The weekend before New Year's, we helped Dorris Huffstetler's family move her out of her home.  She lost the house to foreclosure.  She has been without work for 2 years, unemployment benefits ran out 12/31 and with the house going away, she was moving to Ohio to live with her daughter & her family.  She has now been in Ohio just a little over a week and her daughter, Leslie, called to talk with Gayle.  Dorris is not eating, is an emotional wreck, fearful of everything and Leslie is concerned for her health, her emotional state and of course her husband and small son in the midst of this sudden change in their own lifestyle.  Leslie asked that we please continue to pray for Dorris, for herself and her family.  They are facing an uphill battle.  Please pray for the following:

  • That Dorris will turn to God's word and find comfort and peace.
  • That despite her lack of income, that Dorris will find medical care.
  • That Dorris will begin to eat, despite her lack of desire for food.
  • For a hedge of protection around Leslie and, her husband, Michael's marriage so they can weather this storm.
  • For a hedge of protection around their young son Elias, that he will be shielded from this storm.

Praises:

1.  Harold Lessner finally passed the kidney stone.
2.  The Lessner's granddaughter is back at home.
3.  Mark O'Day - is now at home, but still has a long road for recovery.
