Hope everyone is having a great week. Below are our prayer requests for this week:
1. Rob Martin - job situation, pray for God's guidance.
2. Jeri Martin - Rob's mom, confirmed diagnosis of dementia, pray for guidance in decisions about his mom's care.
3. Women trapped in sex trafficking rings - Super Bowl Sunday sees the largest rise in activity, pray for these women.
4. Betty Hay - sister of Dorris Hufstettler, she is in the hospital with congestive heart failure. Pray for healing and recovery.
5. Leslie Wortgow - Dorris Hufstettler's daughter...found a lump and she is going for an ultrasound and mammogram, pray the lump is benign.
6. Don - Brent Powers dad - in the hospital with congestive heart failure. Pray for healing and recovery.

Praise:
1. The Blum's son found a job!
2. Duane Webb - Archie Dinglasan has 2 graduating high school special education students that were in need of transitional support to adulthood. 3 different member companies came forward and will be providing students mock job interviews (3 per student) to help prep and offer advice. Monies offered and raised by church members at their companies also provided students with dress clothing and cap/gown for graduation and job interviews. Other monies provided food/snacks for class and some immediate family needs as well. Students are overwhelmed with excitement!

I pray everyone is doing well. Below are our prayer requests for this week:

1. Betty English - Gayle's sister's mother-in-law, not eating and is going down hill fast. Pray for healing & for the family as there are tough decisions to be made and tough conversations to have.
2. Penny Posten - friend of a friend of the Howard's, her body is rejecting a kidney transplant, going back on dialysis, not eligible for a new transplant. Not sure about salvation, so first pray for salvation and also for healing.
3. Zack - friend of the Judy's who has Chron's and was in the hospital. He has lost 125 lbs....continued prayer for healing and recovery.
4. Jeri Martin - Rob's mom, found paperwork that she was diagnosed with dementia but has not discussed with her family. Pray for how the family should handle, for peace and healing.
5. Craig & Amy - signed separation papers, pray for this family.
6. Wake Forest Care Center - pray for the residents that are still in the facility as there are many issues going on.

Below are the Praises for this week:
1. Jen Yokley's Grandmother does not have cancer. Pray for continued recovery from the surgery.
2. Rob Martin has had several employment opportunities come his way. Pray for wisdom and God's direction.
3. Michelle Tyson's co-worker Lynn's son is recovering better than expected from the skin grafts.

1. Shelley Goff's Grandfather - fell and broke his nose and hand. Other hand has the port for his dialysis, so he is unable to assist with dressing, etc. Care falling to her Grandmother. Pray first for salvation for her Grandfather, healing for his nose & hand, health recovery and for her Grandmother.
2. Clay Farris - project at work is not going well. Pray for Clay to be spirit filled.
3. Roxanne Knight - in need of a 2 year old teacher for their school (pray for the right person to be found), praise for Godly people surrounding them.
4. Pedro Knight - is sick, pray for recovery.
5. Michelle Tyson's co-worker Lynn's son Seth - burned while working on the car, pray for continued recovery.
6. Michelle's cousin Madeline - was having strokes due to rare condition, is out of Wake-Med and in Rehab, praises to God, but continued prayers for recovery.
7. Dorris Hufstettler - needs a job and found out new medication is causing memory issues. Pray that she finds a job and that her medication can be regulated to avoid problems.
8. Elias - Dorris' grandson, he is sick, pray for recovery.
9. Hillary & Shaun - contact with Dorris' daughter, abusive relationship. Pray for a changed heart and restoration of their relationship.
10. Jen Yokley's Grandmother - surgery was Monday, pray for full recovery and that the biopsies come back negative.
11. Zack - has Chron's and is having pretty severe complications. Has 4 kids. Pray for healing and recovery.
12. Gayle - had meetings this week, pray the outcome is positive and that God leads her decisions.

I trust each of you are doing well. Below are our prayer requests for this week:

1. Colleen Blum - having issues with their son Adam, pray for the family.
2. Madeline - Michelle Tyson's cousin, she is 16, has a rare condition that causes her to have strokes. These strokes have intensified. Pray for the family and for healing.
3. William (also from Michelle) - was in a motorcycle accident and is at Wake-Med. Please pray for healing and recovery.
4. Lynn (co-worker of Michelle's) - her 16 year old son was working on his car and his shirt caught on fire and he received severe burns on his upper body, he is at UNC. Pray for healing and recovery.
5. Christian - car accident, pray for recovery.
6. Lanetta - Pedro Knight's Mom, she is in a home, pray for wisdom for Pedro on her care.
7. Ella - child with brain cancer (recurrence from 3 years ago), she is hanging on, but it is only a matter of time. Pray for the Neumiller (spelling?) family.
8. Un-named - 14 year old in Roxanne Knight's school that was abused several times by family members and is beginning to open up about it. Pray for wisdom for Roxanne... and that she will continue to open up and for emotional and spiritual healing.
9. Janet Abernathy - last stages of cancer, pray for the family.
10. Jenifer Yokley's Grandmother - has a mass on her ovary and is scheduled for surgery on the 24th. Pray that it is not cancer, that her Grandmother does well and for the surgical staff.
11. Jeff - Brain tumor...he has two small children...pray for healing and peace for the family during this very difficult time.
12. City of Kiev - Ukrainian missions team, planning to plant 3 or 4 churches, pray God's hand is on the mission and it will be successful.
13. Jeff Gardner - Just wanted to let you know that Beverly’s cousin Cindy passed away Sunday and we will be attending service this afternoon we would just ask for prayer for family she lost her battle with cancer Your brother in Christ Jeff
14. Pam Via - Update on Caleb's leg. After an x-ray was taken that showed one of the growth plates in his right leg has closed. We were referred to a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. Today we had an appointment to go over the CT scan results with the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. Which the CT scan revealed that Caleb will need another surgery to correct the issue. On Feb. 16 Caleb will have surgery to close the other growth plate in his right leg along with surgery on his left leg to close the growth plates in that leg as well. He will have a cast on the left leg and a brace on his right leg. He will have a recovery period of 4-6 weeks. Please pray that the surgery goes well along with his recovery.

Hope everyone had a great New Year's, below are our prayer requests for this week:

1. Rising Star Academy - The Knight's school, having lots of kids transferring in mid-year, pray they will be able to meet the demand and bring the kids up to speed.
2. The Blum's - their son, his girlfriend and the dog have moved in...pray for wisdom and peace...also for a job for their son.
3. Piscatello Family (spelling?) - lost their father several months ago and have now lost a nephew. Pray for comfort during this time of loss.
4. Stringfield Family - dad died in a car accident. Pray for comfort during this time of loss.
5. Craig Swanson - coworker of Clay Farris - we have been praying for him as a non-believer, possible stirring, continue to pray.
6. Hill Family - 7th Grader died suddenly due to an infection, family and friends are taking it hard, pray for comfort during this time of loss.
7. McKennan Family - 10 year old, Harrison, has luekemia, pray for healing and remission.
8. Intentional Prayer - each of us knows someone in our circle of influence that is now saved, be intentional in your prayers for salvation.
9. Matt and Alicia Mercer - We need prayer for wisdom, strength and courage to parent as God would have us to do as we deal with struggles with our son Stephen. Prayers for Stephen: To make good choices, to be set free by coming to Jesus and laying it all at the cross and have positive influences come alongside of him.Thank you class for being there in prayer. Notes from Sunday 02/22.

Paul makes three presuppositions for the Thessalonians:

1. The person confronting the unruly individual is a Christian

2. The unruly individual is a believer

3. The instruction from 1 Thessalonians 5 (for instance, warn the unruly) has been implemented.

Here are some instructions for the Thessalonians from 2 Thessalonians 3:7-15

7 know what is right- remember an authentic example

8 be willing to cut against the grain- your concern is always for others

9 learn to use authority well- be aware you are being observed (People [specifically your children] may not listen to what you say, but they will DO what you DO)

10 advocate for justice (balance, righteousness)- in this situation no work = no eat

(the situation may have been the wealthy thought work was demeaning, Greek influences, and would not contribute labor taking advantage of the lowly, Paul says in this community if you don't work you will go hungry)

11 be prepared to be specific in addressing unruliness

12 invoke an authority higher than yours

13 don't give up the fight- hold fast to your standards

14 don't get sucked in- busy bodies are relentless (don't keep company- avoid their behavior, don't ride their bus)

15 The goal is restoration and reunion

Remember- someone is watching you in the middle of this

What does this mean? How do we apply it in our daily lives?

As we ponder these questions let me share a story with you.

Once there was a man in a line at a local retail store. He was very tired, overworked and wanting to rest. Trying to get home, where there was more chaos in his family with family members sick and house duties wait. Livings check by check, week by week, making ends meet. Top it off as he was trying to get into a short line at the store, there was a individual in front of him with more then twenty items in there basket. The line that he was in was twenty items or less line.

This issue tremendously irritated him. Watching the checker doing there job, he was about to remind the customer that this was an express line. The checker graciously stilled allowed the customer through with all of the items not saying a thing. Finally, it is his turn to check out and one of his items won’t scan correctly and the bar code can not be read correctly. His day was getting extended and he was getting more frustrated.

What would be going through your mind?
Would you be able to find value in these individuals?
Would you be able to love both, the customer and the checker more than getting home?

Couples Connection | Group Description and Explanation

It is exciting to be part of a church and Sunday school that is blessed with numeric growth. In response to this growth, we must make plans to stay connected. Providing a sense of community is part of the function of Sunday school. The best way to handle growing bigger is to simultaneously grow smaller.

To that end, the Couples Connection Sunday school class is organized into groups of couples. The number of groups is determined by the overall size of the class members and participants. A couple will be added to a group once they attend three consecutive Sundays. You can be group/class members without joining Richland Creek Community Church. Currently, we have 7 groups for the participating couples. No group will ever have more than 6 couples. This structure will allow the class to care for 42 family units.

Members of a group are primarily responsible to pray and care for one another. It is very important that each couple make an effort to get to know the other group members. We ask that you make note of any group member that is not in class on Sunday morning and contact them during the week. Effective contact may be made by a phone call, email, or snail mail. If a group member misses three consecutive Sundays, PLEASE BRING THIS TO MY ATTENTION!!!!

In addition to connecting and caring for one another, groups may also choose to do other things. Some groups may be interested in social activities or play days for children. Others may enjoy movies or sports events. How your individual group interacts is up to the members.

Groups will be reorganized as growth dictates.

Conflict can be an opportunity for growth or healing
Time does not heal all wounds or resolve conflicts
Every conflict has an OPTIMUM solution
If YOU don’t change- conflict will not be resolved

Skills for Resolving Conflict

You are not the Holy Spirit
Deal with people at their spiritual level- not yours
The only thing you can control in a conflict is your actions or attitude
Start at the top of the relational ladder
Practice the one accord principle
Consider what is in the other person’s best interest
Determine the ultimate authority

Conflict Resolution Styles

COMPETITIVE: Take a firm stand; position of power drawn from rank of authority; useful in emergency when quick decision is demanded
COLLABORATIVE: Try to meet needs of all people involved; highly assertive, but acknowledge that everyone is important; useful to bring together many viewpoints
COMPROMISING: At least partially satisfy everyone; everyone is expected to give up something; useful if cost of conflict is higher than cost of losing ground
ACCOMODATING: Meet needs of others at your own expense; not assertive, but highly cooperative; useful when peace is more valuable than winning
AVOIDING: Evade conflict entirely; can be appropriate when victory is impossible
